Description

The Engineering Scotland Autumn Lecture 2014, delivered by Laing O'Rourke

Building Information Modelling – Build Virtually – Build in Reality

Building Information Modelling (BIM) means many things to many people – some see it as a piece a software - a 3D model of a building - a process or indeed a collection of data. BIM enables the highly sophisticated integration of software which creates a visual representation of a construction project prior to the physical build - Sean Termansen of Laing O’Rourke will present on BIM at our Autumn Lecture, kindly hosted by Professor John Marsh, Head of School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow.

Sean will provide an overview of BIM, illustrating with case studies how Laing O’Rourke implements it - simulating in a virtual environment the complete structure in advance of construction in order to achieve huge efficiencies in design and construction, cost savings and quality assurance. The Lecture will demonstrate how BIM is utilised in reality, onsite, outlining how, by integrating the scheduling information, all the architects, mechanical and structural engineers and landscapers etc., can operate with maximum efficiency, reducing operational and management costs on any project. This leads to greater predictability, improved health & safety, reduced waste and ultimately, greater corporate competitiveness and increased client satisfaction.

The 2014 Autumn Lecture is Engineering Scotland’s first – the introduction and welcome will be given by Professor John Marsh and there will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end. The Lecture is free but places are limited. Please register here. Early registration is advised as the Lecture is expected to be very popular.

The Lecture will take place on Monday 27th October at 19:00 at the Stevenson Lecture Theatre (Room 354) James Watt South Building, The University of Glasgow, G12 8QQ

Please join us at 18:30 to enjoy light refreshments. Parking is available at the University from 6pm – please enter through the main gate on the brow of University Avenue.
